New York Cheesecake(light version)

I hardly get my butt so fast down to making cheesecake since well...most of the time they will not b eveninly brown.. and then also end up cracking like no body business... and today of cos its as usual... crack crack crack.. but brown evenly... a bit too brown i tot... and with the efficient girl photoshoping the poto.. hehe.. now the crack is gone

well at least nt so bad ahaa.. this time round cracks form on the side... then again.. the cake was really soft n light... realy unlike real new york cheesecake.. guess I need to tweak recipe a bit more sinc ei think ic an smell the eggy smell... or is it the cheese? let mi chill it 1st before I decide
I cant wait but slice them up while its still warm to snap a poto..chillign them faster in smallerpiece so we can have it for supper later

Baking 911

Got a book via a forum recently.. im so glad my friend help me to chop the book as soon as she saw it and hehe.. I got it!
It cost like $24plus at kino.. and this was a steal... $8 only.. and brand new.... thou i need to go on the western part of singapore to collect, but very quickly i got over to collect despite I live in extreme east since i dont want the book to b bought over if i do not collect and worse shouldit go missing by post... i will heartpain...

For Elieen bday, i did this tiramisu upon her request... its really not bad thou i will cut down on the cream in future.

Made a mistake by putting the sponge finger att he side b4 i dust w coco powder.. so the figners were stained.. nonetheless we enjoy them alot... right outside starbucks coffee at PS =)

Couple of weeks ago.. Artchoo ask me to try the Pralet at Judy's cafe. She say its very nice.

Last week, i made dear send me down to buy 1 piece to try.. well.. Im nto a chocoalte person..any small amount of cheapo chocolate will give mi sore throat... I can only eat Godiva dark bitter chocolate hehe

Anyway, the cake was good and thus I decided to reinvent it since there is no recipe... With many trips to friend's house, discussing bout this recipe, finaly last week I chance upon this at Lee's place...

This cake is very tedious, u need 4 diff layer. 2 layer of chocolate mousse, 1 layer of Praline Crunch (which needs feulletine), 3 layer of sponge cake as well as topped with a layer of ganache... I did it the same order as I see the cake last week. And I know she added alcohol to it...

Wanting to do this for Father's day but my fridge was kind of full and so I onli managed to do it today in a lazy afternoon...

Used the cherries we got from Carrefour just now as toppings

Thinking this shall be breakfast tomorrow, however, after dear had his glass of red wine, he req for dessert and thus.. I slice the cake almost immediately after decorating it.

Dear gave me 9/10 for this cake. he say its much nicer than my very famous chocolate fudge cake...

I had a bite from his cake.. well.. I must say.. almost near to Judy's one hehe.. Im so please... thou Some how.. I think I did nt add enuff alcohol... dear say cant taste(I added 2 tbsp only) and so I think next round i can double the amount hehe...Cos I dun get HIGH eating this as compare to the one last week.

Anyway Im pleased with this cake bearing in mind im no chocolate lover

All About Father's Day

1st... I had to make a durian cake for order... I cant decide what to decor with... so I decided to do apapa face... Purposely din smotthen the face.. since when papa grow one.. surely thr is some wrinkles rite??

Note: I ask JT on Sunday hw is the cake, review was very good by his folks.. Im so happy

And I was running REALY LATE to cook Father's Day dinner.. I onli managed to buy all my ingredient at 4.30. Dinner starts at 7.30~ with only 3 hours to go....

The theme will be western food tonite.

My menu incudes: mash potato, Garden salad with berry dressing, sauteed mushroom, cream of brocolli soup, Pork chop, steak, as well as champagne sauce for the meats.

In order to create the below

@ 4.40pm

Boiled all my potatoes,
Marinated and tenderise the chicken chops,
cut up all my brocoli, celery, onions,
boil the soup base for soup,
chop up 3 cup of garlic,

Took mi a loong time.. as i need to peel the potato aft tat to mash.. I am crazy enuff to forget that i can use my mixer to Mash them... lucky at the last instance I rem... here u see hw useful is my big big mixer...

By time I fin the above, I need to puree my almost cook vegetables and create the 'cream'.

And adding on cream and such to the soup to thicken.. DARN.. 1 can of cream not enuff... I need like 2 more... SOS serene to get.. so scare she dunnow hich one (which she really dunno) llucky I know which shelf was the can at at the store.. phew...

Oh ya i forgot to marinate the beef...grrr.. and my mushroom..not sliced yet... chopchop fin them all... cook the mushroom as well as the mash potato...

By 6,30 I was hot n sweaty... gotto hav a quick shower.. surf the net a little.. yea surf net.. to think I got the time to do so

By 7 plus when all came.. my cream arrive... yipee!!!

Time to fry my pork chop and e all dig in.... all were too hungry and thus.. lousy pics...

My friends macaron

Bak Chang

My 1st attempt of wrapping Bak Chang was when i was back in Sweden. I rem the dumplign leaves cost me like $10 ... but I still went ahead, and self taught myself to wrap it..thou it wasnt well done.. but I must say it was edible...
This year, I got Leelee to teach em the proper way. Many thanx to her patience on the hot n warm afternoon... I manged to wrap some ok looking bak chang
We did the Hokkien Chang on that day.
We managed to wrap 33 bak chang... obviously i tink 28 are wrap by leelee.. Im simply too slow...
The Bak chang are nice... not oily like outside ones... can eat 2 at 1 go...

Cake Decor-Piping

Been a year since I last learn cake decor.. Hardly got a chance to practice.. since my family get put off the sight whehn they see the cream... and they find the cream kind of decor old fashion... so most of the time I do their fav--mirror..

Today with many whip cream left in fridge.. I decided to practice...

Healthy Snacks

Many Months ago, Angie told me bout this all so expensive snack...
I rem we went Carrefour and she got this snack for her holiday munching.
When I saw the packaging, wah look so pretty.. price tag also pretty.. $5plus per bag... I almost want to faint.. but its supposed to be healthy said Angie.

Anyway, I did nto get a chance to try this snack..cos I simply REFUSE.. ppl who know me will know.. I always refuse to give in to expensive snack(apart from my durian chips whcih I dun even see now)..

However, many mth down the road... recently at the petril kiosk, dear and I saw this snack.. ar $4plus.. well slightly cheaper i guess.. Dear insisted on buying for mi try(maybe he is the one who wan to eat haha). he keep telling me its nice its nice.. so I said I heard bout it but too ex lar.. anyway.. we still bought... and seems like he like it alot.. and well of cos I dun mind him eating this.. Better than eatting ruffles n pringles rite? its it have NO TRANSFAT.. yeahhhh I love this sentence.. very impt since dear snack alot nowadays...

So last nite, when I was on errands at Giant, I hear dsomeoen said, so cheap... being SINGAPOREAN..when u hear word so cheap.. u prob wan to kaypo bout it... haaha I saw this whoel lot of chips at the basket.. on offer... 1 for 1 leh.. not too bad yeah.. so I grab for for dear.. he will b shock when he come back... hehe
Anyway at least he eat I wun feel guilty lar... hehe

Earl Grey Checkered Cake

Took me record time(looong time) to fin up making this cake.

Anyway shall not elaborate on the unhappy things for if I get unhappy that 'lost soul' will only get happier...

So Here... Finaly

Made use of my wilton checkered tin again to attempt this, thou i must say its not really necessary so long as u got 2 cake ring of diff size work as well.
I did this sponge cake for the 1st time, and im impressed.. look like this weekend durian cake i shall use this sponge.
Topping was a failure..somehow it din set well enuff.. end up the side gt no more chocolate..
Of cos I am havign bad sore throat now.. for the frosting make mi have the immediate effect once again.. I need Godiva Dark Bitter chocolate....
I am givign this cake to 3 friends today, 2 friends are named Linda, and of cos Angie. Savign 1 piece for dear, perhaps I will give 1 to Amrita as well to let her try... Many Thanx for her help to revamp my little home here a little... thanx girl... I really learnt alot from you... study hard ok!!!

Instant Lor Mee

The other day, while I was talking to my friend bout my craving for a proper bowl of lor mee, she told me boutu this product..urging me to try...

Thou not as close as real one she said.. satisfying enuff... and I pick up a bowl from NTUC... after many days, finaly I got a chance to try it.

Just add the 4 pack of condiment in the packing.. add water and stir.. 2 mins later.. u get this

The noodle is obviously not any where near the fresh yellow noodles with the lye water taste we get outside... but a good bowl of lor mee, most importantly lies in the soup and the topping... Again the topping wasnt anything like the original kind.. but the soup is yummy .. yeah ignore the MSG for now ok?? itsnot original.. but then again.. for a instant bowl of thg... I think this is really GOOD... its have the tinge of sourness from vinegar.. and a little spicy as well...

I regret last night..that i bought only 1 bowl.. cos i was so hungry.. I tot i can eat 1 more =)

Green Tea Mousse Cake

I try to do a green tea mousse cake today...

originaly suppose to have dry longan meat in it... and I omitted that since dear dun like it.. seems like.. seems like tis a Mistake....
Its a bit too sourish.. for the yoghurt is sour... need more sugar i guess...

Simple Pasta

Did a very simple pasta today

Actualy I am suppos eto cook it last week ... somehow witht he chain of events I have.. only can do it today.. and this not to be consume today anyway.. its for dear to bring to work tomolo.. he will be on duty, so this is a good time to make him a nice box of pasta...

Having done pasta for so many years... its always on n off that I get the right taste... maybe my standard too high like wat my friend says.. this dish.. I follow ah mah's recipe... add the raw garlic at the very end... well.. it does really make a difference.. esp, I aded 2 bulb of garlic in all for 1 1/2 portion of pasta.. looks like the vampire will get off me for the next 2 days hehe
Note: ah mah... u know who u r hor?? *wink*

Kitty Moulds... a gift from my malaysian friend

Mr Postman redeliver an article for me .. I wasnt expecting any in the 1st place. I got a pleasant surprise when I open it

Its from a friend in malaysia "C". She gave me a small surprise.. to thank me for my efforts. Well Im really grateful for this gift. SHe is helping us get some heart shape moulds as well for everyoen in spore.. so kind of her to offer her help.

Will try to do jello soon with this =)

Fruitty time again

This is one of dear's fav fruit.. avocado...

Saw some at carrefour yeterday and bought some for him... I know he misses his avocado milkshake.. I try not to make so often since its very high in fats...thou tis good fats still excessive is not good...
Tonight will amke the shake if dinner is not too filling hehe...

Oatmeal cookies

After few days break.. I itchy hands again... Amrita suggest cookies.. so I try my hands on Vi's oatmeal cookies

Added macademia nuts as well as raisin into the mixture..
Dunno where did I go wrong..it taste a bit floury to me.. maybe shld ask dear to try later when he get bk... but i like the taste =)

I use this very frequently in cooking rice, porridge, soup, steam fish, and even making of dessert like white fungus dessert as well as my osmanthus cake. It can also be eaten raw.. believe to be good for improving vision.

Before I log off for my short get away to Bintan, let me just finish with this post, in case u miss me for the next few days while Im away...

Cherry is on the list. mum bought some for Serene upon her request, and I was given some... err some as in.. I think I had 11 numbers of them hehe...

This small little cuties, are real expensive... It cost $20 per kg... Miss those days in Europe where such fruits are soooo cheap.

Picked the deep red and shiny ones... and pop them into your mouth ... err yea.. I cant resist.. I din even wait to wash them when I get home.. by the time I reach home.. I only have 3 cheeries left... Uneaten for the sake of photo taking...

Now, if cherry is going to get cheaper, I wll want to do my very own Maraschino Cherry.

Ripped the recipe off the web the other day

Ingredient :
200 gr black cherry
200 ml water
50 ml grape juice
200 gr sugar
1/2 tsp salt
lime juice from 1/2 lime
1 tsp almond extract/ essence

Methods :

Put ingredients in a saucepan bring to boil and thicken, add almond extract and black cherry for a minute and leave to cool overnight.

Strain the cherry and bring to boil the sugar syrup, let it cool.Put cherries into the pasteured jar then add syrup, close the lid and put in a fridge for 1 - 2 weeks.


The cherry can be soaked overnight with combination of water, a pinch of slaked lime( kapur sirih, Indo) or alum powder(tawas) and salt before boiling process for crispness.I dont have them.

Fresh Lemon

Sour stuff.. thats always top on my list.. I love them all...
Mango, strawberry, lychee.. I love them all sour... so of cos.. I love lemon too

These lemon are nothg out of the ordinary.. Just simple lemon.. except that.. they are sooo fresh looking (I have never seen them so fresh before in NTUC), I cant help but blog bout them

Most of the time I will buy a couple like 5 of them... and they will always be so helpful to me... I make lemon curd out of its juice, zest is also used. Cut them in slices add to my iced cold water, the remains after I jucied them .. will sit on my sink for 1 day.... deodourising the kitchen from the smell.. as well as brighten up my sink since my sink is make of solid material in beige... loads of stain sometimes...


I love otah... be it in banana leaves, or in bread... I have a soft spot for them... Mostof the time I will buy them at pasar malam.. and eat them while walking home.

Moving to Punggul allows me to explore more food supplies. Once, I passed by Jalan Kayu, saw a otah supplier... well.. I been buying from them ever since.. not in banana leaves, but in tubs... They sell the otah paste like 1kg for $16.. most of the time I will buy 1/2kg, bring home and prob fin them within 2 days... steam them ina bowl and eat as "pudding"..Hahaa

Of cos they do sell in stick form.. but I want to save the hassle of takign them out of the leaves...

Another otah I like, is Lee Wee brothers Otah. 1st eaten them when I order some for BBQ at Bintan.. yes we like to have BBQ when we go to Bintan.. so Otah is allmost a must buy.. This time round.. I have ordered 35 pieces... jus enuff to go around for the 7 adults. 1 thign thou.. I always get the runs after I eat this otah... I guess Im pretty much allergic to one of the key ingredients they use.. what ingredients? I dunno... Secret right??


Attempted mac today.. this time I wanted to do sesame flavour...
err.... did i pass my 1st batch as beginner's luck or???
this batch.. no feets to be seen.. more like cookies...

The Jewel Box

After lunch... we had some free time.. since its not alwasy dear bring mi out for lunch on a weekday... quite good.. at least no need squeeze w ppl... and so we went up to Mt Faber...

Went to The Jewel Box.. thinking of enjoying the scenery and have coffee...

Strangely there isnt much coffee variety ont he menu.. and so we decided to have dessert.

taste not bad..but service is not good.. they are slow... I fin my whole pie..and my ice water not even here yet.. maybe they know we r not tourist???

Lor Mee--Bt Purmei

Finaly I gotto eat lor mee today.. Its been YEARS since I have a proper bowl of lor mee..those I ate are either HALAL meaning no pork.. or they are FAKE...

Anyway.. Lor Mee.. actualy is yellow noodle in a bowl of thicken braised gravy.... they braised the pork and wateverever.. maybe eggs? then using the same gravy they thicken it, adding noodles to it... toppping it witht he crispy yummy bits... Slurp... oh ya.. u need load sof freshly minced garlic as well as as vinegar for this... Its HEAVENLY

Dear finaly can bring me to Bt Purmei for the famous lor mee today... yum yum... been some times since we went there...

A bowl of $3 lor mee.. with loads of garlic... make mi sooo happy... I love Lor Mee....
